This role will be responsible for shaping strategy, policies and procedures to ensure group-wide compliance with international trade compliance laws and regulations, including UK, EU, US (EAR and ITAR) and customs principles.
Responsibilities:
- Provide expert guidance to the Group on export control, customs, and sanctions, offering technical advice to business trade compliance teams as needed.
- Conduct thorough due diligence for transactions in challenging jurisdictions, supplementing existing business processes.
- Collaborate with the Compliance Program Manager to design and deliver trade compliance training across the organization.
- Assist in the development, upkeep, and implementation of Group-wide trade compliance policies and procedures.
- Conduct internal audits and investigations to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, including sanctions and embargoes.
- Maintain the internal Group "watch list" and keep stakeholders informed of regulatory updates and emerging risks.
- Cultivate relationships with internal stakeholders, fostering trust and credibility while aligning business processes with applicable trade laws and internal policies.
Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
- Over 10 years of relevant experience in trade compliance (excluding logistics).
- Strong operational knowledge of UK, EU, and US import/export controls.
- Familiarity with import regulations, rules of origin, and classification (HTS/export controls).
- Understanding of WTO rules of valuation.
- Experience in conducting audits/investigations and delivering internal trade compliance training.
- Ability to navigate complex, decentralized organizations, build effective networks, and collaborate across functions and levels.
- Willingness to advocate for compliant policies even in challenging situations that may appear disadvantageous to the business.
