To manage operations at their Portland, Oregon site, our client is looking for a motivated and experienced terminal manager. The ideal applicant will have experience in the moving and relocation sector and a track record of successfully overseeing terminal-level operations, guaranteeing service quality, and effectively managing both personnel and procedures.
Maintaining operational effectiveness, making sure regulations are followed, overseeing staff and the fleet, and providing exceptional customer service are all crucial tasks for a terminal manager. Strong people management abilities, business savvy, and a proactive, hands-on approach are necessary for this leadership role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all daily terminal activities, such as the transportation, storage, local dispatch, and linehaul coordination of home items.
- Oversee, coach, and lead a group of drivers, crew leaders, warehouse workers, and administrative staff. Make sure that all local, state, and federal transportation laws—including DOT and safety requirements—are followed.
- Encourage cost reduction and operational efficiency in labor, equipment, and fuel use.
- Maintain cleanliness, safety regulations, and the preparedness of your vehicles and equipment.
- Collaborate closely with the corporate, sales, and customer service departments to address escalations and provide high service standards.
- Track operational metrics and KPIs to find areas for improvement and put remedial measures in place.
- Manage claims, warehouse storage, and inventory control.
- Ensure all paperwork and documentation is accurate and completed in a timely manner
- Hire, develop, and retain skilled workers in accordance with business policies.
- Create and implement backup plans to reduce service interruptions and increase customer satisfaction.
- At least five years of experience in the transportation, moving, or relocation sector, with at least two of those years spent in a supervisory or terminal management capacity; solid knowledge of FMCSA compliance, DOT laws, and safety procedures
- Proven leadership abilities and background in overseeing operations and field teams
- Outstanding communication, problem-solving, and organizational abilities Capacity to work under pressure and balance several responsibilities in a hectic setting Expertise in fleet management tools, Microsoft Office Suite, and dispatch software
- A current driver's license is necessary, though a CDL is desirable.
