Interested in modern and contemporary design? As a Design Specialist, you'll be joining a premier auction house in Northern California! You'll work closely with high-end furniture and decorative arts, assisting customers in consigning and purchasing twentieth-century and contemporary works. This exciting position will put you at the center of the growing art and design auction business.

What You’ll Be Doing:
  • Maintain and grow existing customer connections while attracting new ones through outreach to individuals, dealers, galleries, appraisers, and allied organizations.
  • Catalog and assess a diverse range of 20th-century, modern, and contemporary design furniture and decorative arts in accordance with the company's guidelines.
  • Curate, organize, lot, catalogue, and market a quarterly auction specializing in 20th-century, modern, and contemporary design.
  • Engage with clients to assess potential consignments, both on and offsite.
  • Meet tight deadlines while working in a fast-paced, collaborative atmosphere.
  • Market auctions and individual items are efficient ways to attract potential purchasers.
  • Help with the study, exhibition, and marketing of furniture and decorative arts property.
  • Support public relations campaigns while also completing administrative chores such as inventory control and consignor statement evaluation.
  • 500-700 pieces are auctioned weekly; accurately catalogue, measure, and value them.
  • Contextualize goods by conducting thorough research and providing clear descriptions.
  • Collaborate with the entire team to guarantee smooth auction operations.
  • Participate in auction events and labor at least one Saturday every month.

What We’re Looking For:
  • 1-2 years of auction cataloguing expertise, preferably with 20th-century, modern, or contemporary design.
  • A college degree in Art History or a similar subject.
  • Strong organizational skills, with a keen eye for detail and follow-through.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to think critically and communicate effectively.
  • Reliable transportation for off-site client appointments.
